Copenhagen Global Warming Conference

By David Bates

So they are all gathered in Denmark to discuss Global Warming and Climate change......WHY?

I do not subscribe to any view that says WE are responsible for OR can in any way influence what happens to the climate.

It seems a bit like King Canute sitting on a beach in the UK back in the mists of time trying to hold back the waves, under the misguided impression that he was so powerful a king, that he was mightier than nature,

The UK was at one time in history covered in snow and ice in what was called the ICE AGE, believe it or not.

Was that something caused by mankind, or the life forms on the planet? NO!!

In the 1950's when I was born, there were factories spewing out masses of carbon gasses, particularly from the steel furnaces in South Yorkshire, At times you could not see across the street for this smog. Today , there is no industry in the area and the air is cleaner. Most people had coal fires , now it is clean electric or natural gas that fuels these processes.

No-one back then thought they were changing the climate of the planet. History shows that climate is cyclical and is affected by greater forces, such as the changing tilt of the earth, the gravitational forces in the vast universe.

The second issue I have a problem with is "green taxes". Can anyone suggest why it will make any iota of difference to the situation by adding on a "green tax" to air fares, car fuel? Will it make planes fly less? Will people drive less?

It just seems to me a way of raising money to help governments (UK mainly) pay for pointless conflicts, which are based on futile rationale.

If any efforts are to be made for the future of people on this planet, it should be more to how we provide the buildng blocks of life. Food and drinking water.

I may have presented a simplified view of things, but I have often been told "KISS" (Keept it simple stupid"
