US Presidential Elections
To us Brits, wherever we live in Europe, the constant barrage of news items about the US Presidential elections on our TV screens is just overkill.I cannot understand why I have to be made aware more about what is going on in the US than in the UK or Spain, where I live. So every time the election campaign appears on my screen, I shout "so who cares!" or "so what". What can what happens in the White House affect my life so dramatically? The US has of late helped to make the quality of life pretty hard, with the credit crunch bourne out of reckless lending, principally in the States. The knock on effect has created an unprecedented and totally unnecessary downturn, or is a market adjustment? Then to add insult to injury, this week saw George Bush lauding it over Gordon Brown, making speeches that do not satisfactorily get him off the hook for Iraq. I am in the camp that believes Blair and Bush, just went off on one big ego trip, deluding themselvesinto believing that they were rulers of the civilised world. I really think they should have stuck to keeping their eyes firmly on the domestic front. The diversion was meant to delay the inevitable economic mess, that was due to come one day. Tony Blair got out of politics just in time, and left the totally hapless and pathetic Gordon Brown to carry the can for all the problems his negligence was building up for the UK. The biggest threat to the world is Islam. Salman Rusdie said that a long time ago. I heard commentators in the 1970's saying that the puropse of Islam was to take over the world. It is happening in town near you. The Islamics own most of the oil, and we are being put under economic pressures designed to give power to Islam. I say the world politicians, wake up and smell the coffee before it is too late. |
